Two Missouri poll workers lose their lives in floodwaters on their way to the polls on Tuesday morning.
The Missouri Highway Patrol says a 70-year-old male and a 73-year-old female were found deceased on Tuesday morning after their vehicle was washed from the roadway by floodwaters on state Route H near Beaver Creek. The two were on their way to work at a polling location in central Missouri around 4:30 on Tuesday morning. Wright County Clerk Loni Pederson confirmed to the Associated Press that the two victims were poll workers. Pederson called their deaths a tragic loss and stated that the two were dedicated citizens who valued fair and honest elections.
Three individuals from two other vehicles were also caught in the floodwaters but were able to escape and swim to shore.
