Sedan Issues Purple Heart City Proclamation

The City of Sedan is now a Purple Heart City.

City Clerk Lana Robinson made the proclamation at a special ceremony at last night's Sedan City Council meeting.

Robinson notes that the designation pays tribute to local soldiers who paid the ultimate price.

To become a Purple Heart City a municipality must have at least one Purple Heart recipient who is either living or deceased, issue an official proclamation, and recognize National Purple Heart Day on August 7.

The Purple Heart is the country's oldest military medal, established in 1792 by George Washington to honor soldiers for their bravery and courage. In 1932, it was changed to recognize those wounded or killed in action.
