Whooping Cough Cases Confirmed in Fredonia

Whooping cough cases are confirmed at Fredonia's elementary school.

According to a report in the Wilson County Citizen, two students in the Fredonia school district have tested positive, according to superintendent Brian Smith.

In many people, whooping cough, also known as pertussis, is characterized by a severe hacking cough followed by a high-pitched intake of breath sounding like a “whoop.”

The Kansas Department of Health considers the cases in Lincoln Elementary School's 4th grade class an outbreak. Any children who develop symptoms before November 18th should stay away from school and see their doctor.
