Most counties in southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma are currently under burn bans due to the lack of rain and ongoing drought conditions.

 The recent windy weather has also led to extreme fire danger in the area. Nowata County Emergency Management Director Laurie Summers says current conditions warrant extreme caution.

Dry, windy conditions are expected to continue today, but the weather forecast suggests the possibility of rain in the next few days.
