Deer/Car Collisions Most Likely This Time of Year

The months from October to December are the most likely times for vehicle/deer crashes in Kansas.

The shorter fall days mean common commuter times happen at the same time deer are more likely to be on the move. Shawn Steward with Triple-A Kansas says the results can be deadly.

Tips to avoid collisions with a deer include being watchful when driving at dawn and dusk when the animals are most likely to be on the move, and reduce speed and be alert near wooded areas. Steward adds that it's always a good idea to wear your seatbelt.

If you do hit a deer, slow down and pull on to the shoulder. Turn on your emergency flasher lights and dial 9-1-1.
