Police in Wichita have taken a 9-year-old boy into custody after the child allegedly drove a stolen vehicle nine miles along city streets.

 Wichita police responded to the call last week of an auto theft on the southeast side of the city. The stolen vehicle was tracked by an air unit, allowing police on the ground to follow the car without using lights and sirens. Officers were able to maintain a safe distance until the vehicle came to a stop. They were then able to approach the car and take the juvenile into custody. The child was safely returned to their guardians.
