Montgomery County Approves Expenditures for Sheriff's Office

Montgomery County Commissioners approve a pair of expenditures for the County Sheriff's Office.

At yesterday's meeting, Montgomery County Undersheriff Chris Williams presented commissioners with two expenditures for approval. The first was a bill for the care of more than a dozen horses and dogs seized by the Sheriff's Office in July in an animal cruelty case. Williams says the animals were in poor condition and needed a lot of care to restore their health.

Williams told commissioners that the animals could not yet be adopted because they are evidence in the case, so the county must continue to pay for their care. Williams also presented the commission with a purchase the Sheriff's Reserves wanted to make. The request was for $11,000 (eleven thousand dollars) to purchase a utility vehicle from Roman's Outdoor Power. Williams says the purchase would be at no cost to taxpayers.

The commission also approved that purchase. In other business, County Administrator Jonathan Booe requested the early closure of the county courthouse on Friday for Neewollah. Commissioners approved the request to close the courthouse at 2pm. The Country Treasurer's Office and Auto Tag Office will also close at 1:30. There will be no titles processed after 12:30pm on Friday due to the early closure for Neewollah.
