Many area fire departments were busy this weekend.

On Sunday starting at 12:45 p.m., Independence, Dearing, Liberty, Sycamore, Tyro Rural and Coffeyville Resources responded to a large grass fire southwest of Independence. As efforts were wrapping up with that fire, Dearing, Independence, Tyro and Liberty were dispatched north of Caney to help the Havana and Caney Fire Departments with another large grass fire. Then, Dearing and Independence were sent back to the Independence grass fire along with the Elk City Fire Department.

According to the Dearing Fire Department, several structures were threatened, but none were lost. Dry conditions continue to prompt burn bans in the four states, and even if your county is not included in a burn ban, local fire departments are asking everyone to be mindful of conditions before burning anything.
