Tulsa Snake Not Arrested, But Tulsa Man Is

A routine traffic stop early yesterday morning turns into a lot more for Tulsa Police.

The incident began around 4:30 yesterday morning when officers spotted a white Acura driving without headlights on. The driver was stopped, but he refused to give officers a license or proof of insurance.

TPD officials say the man made statements saying that there was no law saying he had to have headlights, and even while being detained, he said he could drive off any time.

The man held on to a small python during the 20-minute exchange with officers, even holding the snake during a brief vehicle chase, which led to a pursuit on foot.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was found in possession of 92 grams of Fentanyl, Marijuana products, and nearly $5,000 in cash.

He has been booked on charges of Eluding After Former Conviction of a Felony, trafficking Fentanyl, Drug Possession After Former Conviction of a Felony, Obstruction and Resisting Arrest, Operating a Vehicle with No Headlights, No Driver’s License, and No Insurance.

Tulsa Police say the snake was unharmed and was released to the custody of the suspect’s friend.
