Dewey Woman Arrested on Child Neglect Charges

A Dewey woman faces two felony counts of child neglect after being arrested after a months-long investigation.

43-year-old Sabra Stevenson appeared in Washington County District Court yesterday on the charges.

According to court records, the investigation began on August 24th when police were called to an apartment complex in Dewey for a welfare check. A probable cause affidavit says police talked to Stevenson while a child was in the residence.

The Department of Human Services follow-up visit showed the child staying in a room in the apartment that was dirty and appeared to have fecal matter on the wall.

Dewey Police and DHS followed up on September 9th, where another home visit found more fecal matter in the apartment. Zachary Florence, who also lived at the residence, told officers that the child had not seen a doctor since 2019 or 2020.

Stevenson is being held on $50,000 bond; her next court appearance is scheduled for November 9th. A warrant remains for the arrest of Zachary Florence in the case.
