Dry conditions in northeast Oklahoma prompt Washington County Commissioners to issue a 14-day burn ban.
The ban was issued at this week's commission meeting following a presentation from County Emergency Management Director Kary Cox. Cox says one reason for the ban was the existence of multiple fires over the weekend.
The ban was supported by all of the county's fire departments due to extreme drought conditions. Cox says the ban will prohibit all outdoor burning except for grilling, outdoor cooking, and welding.
This ban expires in 14 days, but Cox says it will likely need to be re-issued.
The Washington County Commission will revisit the issue in two weeks.
