The USD 305 Salina Board of Education says it has taken action to terminate the contract of a middle school teacher after he allegedly sat on a 13-year-old boy.
The original incident occurred on September 6th at Salina South Middle School. The student had been doing bench presses and when he finished his exercises, witnesses say the 39-year-old male teacher then sat on the student. The boy then passed out briefly, and fell off the bench, cutting his head in the process.
The district placed the teacher on administrative leave and the Salina Police Department investigated the incident, forwarding their findings to the Saline County Attorney's Office. The Office declined to file charges in the cases, citing lack of criminal intent. Since most of the witnesses thought the incident was playful in nature.
USD 305 says the employee has the right to request a hearing. Final board action will take place at a USD 305 Board of Education meeting.
