There are about 22 species of frogs that can be found around Kansas. K-State Fisheries and Aquatics Extension Specialist Joe Gerken says the bullfrog is the most common type of frog in the state.
Gerken says the presence of frogs around a pond can indicate that the water is pretty healthy. Gerken says tadpoles can control how long they remain tadpoles. So if there is a high number of predators present they'll speed up the process to become frogs quicker. On average the tadpole stage is one to two months but for some bullfrog species can be one to two years.
