Independence to Install New Lights at Riverside Park Tennis Courts

There's good news for Independence tennis players who like to play under the lights.

For more than a year, twelve of the forty lights at the Riverside Park tennis courts have not been working. Independence resident Ken Brown has requested that the city repair the lights to make it possible for the courts to be used at night. Assistant City Manager Dave Cowan says the city has two options.

The Independence City Commission voted unanimously for the more expensive option, citing that, in the long run, replacing all of the lights would be cheaper because L-E-D lighters are more energy efficient and last longer. The commission agreed to spend $24,000 for W-E-S lights and another $5,000 for Blankenship Electric to install them.
