Egg Prices on the Rise

It's more expensive by the dozen. The price of eggs was up five and a half percent from June to July and is up 19.1% since last year. USDA Livestock Analyst Shayle Shagam says this affects both retail and wholesale pricing.

This time last year wholesale eggs were averaging $1.25 a dozen. Shagam says this year's egg production is well below last year.  Shagam says bird flu has decreased the number of egg-laying hens from 313 million to 305 million. Locally eggs are about $2.50 a dozen.
