The saga of a proposed RV park in Cherryvale is continuing.
At last night's Cherryvale City Council meeting, council members voted to deny a request from Brett Hein of Kansas Equity Consultant Pros, LLC to vacate a city street near Neosho and Whelan.
Hein's proposed RV park was a topic of controversy earlier this year at the Cherryvale Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, with several nearby residents against the idea. Hein says the RV park is needed as more workers will be coming to the new soybean plant. At last night's meeting, there was confusion regarding which street was to be vacated, as the street in question is platted on county maps but has no physical presence. Hein needs the city to vacate the street to combine his parcels of land since an RV park must encompass at least two acres. Council member Norman Johnson says he needs more information before making a decision.
Because the request to vacate the street was denied, the Planning and Zoning Commission will also have to deny the request at their upcoming meeting. In other business, the board again tabled a bid on dozer work for city properties pending insurance information, opened the bid process for roof repairs at Logan Park and for the city's new comprehensive plan, and gave approval to apply for a grant to get an emergency generator for the fire department.
