Firefighters Rescue Dog From Missouri Sinkhole

Firefighters from Webb City and Carterville, MO, rescue a dog from a sinkhole.

The unfortunate pooch was discovered on Saturday when a citizen was out walking and looking for his own dog that had gone missing. As the man approached the sinkhole he heard the dog – who was not his dog – whining from inside the hole.

The sinkhole is 20 feet across and 30 feet down to the surface of the water. It is unknown how deep the water inside the sinkhole is. The dog – a husky mix – was sitting on a ledge about 20 feet down. A firefighter was lowered into the hole to rescue the dog, who didn't put up a fight and seemed very happy to be rescued. The dog suffered some minor injuries and was taken to the Joplin Humane Society to be cared for. Authorities are looking for the dog's owner. The animal was wearing a blue collar with no tags and was not microchipped.
