A former patient at Ascension Via Christi – Saint Francis hospital in Wichita is suing the company after an alleged sexual assault in June.
The victim says she is one of three patients who were assaulted in June. Wichita Police have arrested 28-year-old Miguel Rodela in connection to the crime. Rodela is accused of following an employee into the hospital just after midnight on June 21st. He then proceeded to assault three different patients on three different floors of the hospital. When questioned, Rodela claimed to be a nursing student, though he was not wearing medical clothing and he did not possess a hospital ID. At one point, he was asked by a CNA to help adjust a patient bed. After the CNA left the room , he then allegedly assault the patient.
Criminal charges have been filed against Rodela. The victim in this case is suing for damages in excess of $75,000 due to negligence on the part of the hospital.
