The Kansas Bureau of Investigation arrests two in the murder investigation of an Augusta woman.
Yesterday afternoon, agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the KBI, and the Augusta Department of Public Safety took into custody two 14-year-old Augusta girls on charges of first-degree murder. The two were arrested in connection to the September 2023 killing of 93-year-old Joanne Johnson.
Johnson was found dead in her home by a family member last Labor Day weekend. In May, Governor Laura Kelly issued and executive order that offered $5,000 for information that would lead to an arrest and conviction in the case. Johnson's family offered another $5,000 as well.
The two juvenile suspects are currently being held in separate detention centers and formal charges pending against the pair.
The investigation into the case continues.
