A Wichita teenager is dead and another man is injured after an accident in a boom bucket at the Great Bend Municipal Airport yesterday morning, August 13, 2024.
The accident happened just after 8am when the 16-year-old and a 24-year-old were in a boom bucket that came into contact with high-voltage power lines near the airport's terminal building. The older man was able to escape and get to the ground, but the teen remained in the bucket. Both were taken to the Great Bend Regional Hospital where the teen later died. He was been identified as Ivan Joel Mollins of Wichita. The other man, also from Wichita, was taken to a Wichita hospital with serious burns.
The Barton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
