IHS Drama Receives State Recognition

The Independence High School Theater Department is being recognized for major accomplishments at the state level.

IHS Drama received praise and high marks for their musical performance of The Little Mermaid this spring. Director Elizabeth Bennin says the program received their most awards yet.

The recognition is courtesy of the Jester Awards, which is an annual night held by MTWichita to celebrate the work and creativity of high school theater. Bennin says IHS continues to get better every year.

Along with 17 total nominations, IHS Drama also made history at the state level. Bennin says the group was able to win a Jester after multiple years of nominations.

Other items of business at the August board meeting was an update on the delayed opening of the new Early Learning Center, which is targeted for September 5th. Additionally, enrollment in the district is up from last year, with over 1,500 students at Central Enrollment this fall, and over 1,700 total students expected across all schools.
