The City of Arkansas City is asking people to voluntarily limit their water usage.
The Cowley County city moved into a Stage 1 Water Warning after last week's city commission meeting. Stage 1 means that water conservation is done on a voluntary basis. Ark City has moved into their drought plan due to lack of rain and a pair of water main breaks. The purpose of the move is to hopefully prevent the need to move to stricter measures. Ark City's water storage is currently 65% filled. When it reaches 80%, the city will return to normal.
City officials say that will likely happen by the end of the month.
