The Independence City Commission takes a proactive step to keep vandalism out of Riverside Park.
At this week's city commission meeting, officials from Riverside Park presented commissioners with a bid to install security cameras in high-traffic areas of Riverside Park. Those areas include the playgrounds, the band shell, and newly refurbished big train, among others. Commissioner Dean Hayse says the value the park brings to the community is worth protecting.
Hayse adds that the cost of camera installation is less costly than damage to the park.
The Commission approved the bid of $76,000 for camera installation to D & A Electrical Systems. The work is expected to be completed in about a month.
