The number of city council positions in the city of Caney will be reduced from eight to five, after approval from the city council last night.
The new configuration would reduce the number of wards from four to two.
Caney City Administrator Kelley Zellner explains how that would affect the current council.
Zellner says the reduction of council positions makes it easier for the council to meet.
The reduction in wards will not take place until the first election of 2025.
In other business, the council approved the rezoning of 117 East 5th Street from residential district to business, and heard a report from the grocery store committee on the latest from Caney Grocery.
The council will have a workshop concerning Caney Grocery at 5:30, before the regular session meeting August 19th.
