Battle for City Board in OK Leads to Protective Order and a Kidnapping Charge

The battle over an opens record request in Gore, OK, takes a strange, litigious turn.

Former Gore City Board Member Gideon Miller submitted an opens records request in May in an ongoing effort to regain his seat. When he inquired about the status of his request at a city meeting, his interaction with City Clerk Lisa Settlemyre became contentious. Miller stated that if the city wouldn't give him the records, that he would file a lawsuit. Settlemyre then asked him to leave, claiming Miller was harassing her. He refused.

At that point, Settlemyre leaves the building, locking the door behind her and leaving Miller inside, prompting him to press for a charge of kidnapping. Settlemyre is then heard on tape calling Miller an obscenity. Settlemyre then had a protective order filed against Miller, prohibiting him attending city meetings. The entire encounter between the pair was captured on the city's surveillance cameras.

Miller's case against the city is scheduled for a hearing today, August 1, 2024.
