Former Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt pledges to oppose tax increases.
Schmidt is a Republican candidate for Kansas' Second Congressional District and has signed the Americans for Tax Reform Pledge. The document pledges to oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and businesses. It also opposes any net reduction or elimination of deductions or credits unless matched dollar for dollar by reducing tax rates. Schmidt says Congress must do something to help Americans who struggle financially.
Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist calls the pledge a powerful symbol of support for hardworking taxpayers. Also vying to be the Republican candidate for Congress are Jeff Kahrs and Shawn Tiffany. Schmidt is the only one of the three, so far, to sign the pledge.
