The New Central Park Sports Complex in Independence will officially open for play on Saturday.

 The $11 million project has completed Phase 1 and the newly refurbished baseball and softball fields are ready to their first season of competition. Independence Chamber President Lisa Wilson says there will be a whole day's worth of activities to enjoy on Saturday.

There will also be face painting and concessions available. The Central Park Sports Complex is located on North Park Street in Independence, near Riverside Park.
