Governor Kelly Announces Special Session for Tax Bill

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly calls state legislators back to Topeka for a special session.

Kelly made the announcement Wednesday, stating that she would reconvene the Kansas Legislature for a special session on Tuesday, June 18th. The purpose of the special session is to produce a tax bill the Governor is willing to sign into law. Kelly vetoed the last bipartisan effort at tax relief in April after the bill passed unanimously in the Kansas House.

Governor Kelly and the Legislature have been at odds over tax relief as the legislative body has attempted to eliminate one of the state's income tax brackets. Kelly says she is committed to deliver tax cuts for all Kansans but only in a way that does not threaten the state's fiscal foundation.
