Wichita Man Faces Charges of Trafficking in Human Remains

A Wichita man faces federal charges in a multi-state scheme to buy and sell human remains.

39-year-old Angelo Pereyra has been charged by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania for his alleged part in a ring of buying and selling human remains that stretches from Arkansas to Pennsylvania to Harvard Medical School. He is accused of transporting human remains between Kansas and Pennsylvania between 2018 and 2022.

The FBI and the U.S. Postal Service Inspection Service conducted the multi-year investigation that has led to several arrests in the case. Three of the defendants have pleaded guilty but no one has yet been sentenced. The maximum penalty under federal law is 10 years in prison, supervised release, and a fine.
