Construction crews in Independence have been busy all winter and into the spring working on the baseball fields at the new Central Park Sports Complex.
This coming Saturday will be the first official test of the new ball parks as the city hosts the official grand opening for the complex. The day will begin with a homerun derby at 9am on Saturday. Boys under 12 and girls under 18 can compete to see who can hit the most dingers. Athletes can register at the Ash Youth Center or at the ball fields the day of the competition. The entry fee is $5. Sports Complex Project Manager Lacey Lies says there will be a whole day of activities.
There will also be a night game, a bike ride sponsored by Eagle Rock Shredders, plus face painting and concessions. The new Central Park Sports Complex is located on Park Street in Independence.
