Kansas Abortion Providers Challenge New Law

Abortion providers in Kansas are challenging the legality of a new law that would require providers to ask patients why they are getting the procedure.

The measure will go into effect on July 1st after the Kansas legislature voted to override Governor Laura Kelly's veto. Supporters of the bill say it will provide a better understanding of the reasons women seek abortions while those who oppose it argue that it violates patient privacy and puts the doctor/patient relationship at risk.

The Center for Reproductive Rights and Planned Parenthood have asked the court to add this challenge to an ongoing case brought by Kansas abortion providers.
