Joplin Man Sentenced for Covid Money Fraud Scheme

 

 A Joplin man is sentenced in federal court for two fraud schemes involving more than a quarter of a million dollars in Covid relief money.

 

 22-year-old Deaviyon Rockett was sentenced to five years and three months in federal prison without after pleading guilty to two counts of wire fraud. Rockett admitted to submitting nearly $120,000 in fraudulent Paycheck Protection Program loan applications and more than $175,000 in a transaction reversal scheme. Rockett accessed victims' bank accounts and deposited fraudulent checks written on the accounts of Santander Consumer USA and Coffeyville Community College.

 

Rockett has also been ordered to pay $260,000 in restitution.
