Citizens are expressing concern over the condition of Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale.
At last night's city council meeting, two residents spoke about bare patches and fallen headstones at the cemetery.
Those speaking during the public forum section of the meeting and the council agreed that a soil test through the extension service would be a good idea to find out what's going on.
Council members agreed the cemetery issues could be explored. In other business, the council discussed the possibility of combining permits for those working on related projects like fencing and excavation. Once the ordinance is drafted and if passed, it will result in a savings on permits for some projects. City Administrator Jonathan Booe also gave an update on city projects and buildings and the council approved the appointment of the municipal court judge, city attorney, city clerk, police chief, fire/EMS director and director of public works with no changes to current personnel.
