Those making travel plans this Memorial Day weekend will be in good company. Quite a bit of it, actually.
Triple-A estimates that there will be just over 43 million travelers on the road and in the air for the unofficial beginning of summer holiday. This year's totals will see a 4% increase over 2023 and will come very close to matching the record numbers set in 2005. Shawn Steward of Triple-A Kansas says Kansas highways will see a lot of traffic this coming weekend.
Steward says this year's numbers should be one million greater than 2019, which means we're not only exceeding pre-pandemic levels, but that this may signal a very busy summer travel season as well. Triple-A says gas prices have been holding steady across the country in the past few weeks and they may creep up slightly as Memorial Day approaches, but drivers should expect similar prices.
