Severe Weather Safety for Cars

Severe weather season is here and AAA Kansas wants drivers to be prepared.

Storms can strike quickly, so it's important to know how to stay safe on the road. During heavy rain and hail, reduce speed and pull over if visibility is low. Remember, to turn around, don't drown when encountering floodwaters. For lightning, stay in the car but avoid metal and windows. The biggest danger comes from tornadoes.

In the case of a tornado, abandon the car and seek shelter in a sturdy building. As a last resort, take cover in the vehicle by buckling up, ducking below windows, and protecting the head. AAA Kansas also recommends creating a severe weather emergency kit to keep in the car, including food, water, and a flashlight. Following these tips, drivers can stay safe on the roads.
