Students in Carthage had a bit of a scare yesterday.

 Mark Twain Elementary School in Carthage was evacuated yesterday after the building was struck by lightning. The strike occurred during the latest round of severe thunderstorms that moved through the area yesterday. Students and staff were moved to storm shelter classrooms shortly after the strike.

Students remained out of class as a precaution until the Carthage Fire Department could ensure that the building was safe.
