Baxter Springs Police Chief to Run for Sheriff

 

 The Baxter Springs Police Chief announces he will run for Cherokee County Sheriff.

 Chief Brian Henderson made the announcement on Wednesday that he has filed the appropriate paperwork with the County Clerk's office to put his name on the ballot. Henderson has been a law enforcement officer for 28 years, 20 of which were spent as an officer in the the Joplin Police Department. Henderson retired as a sergeant from J-P-D in 2021 before taking the reins of the Baxter Springs Police Department. Henderson has worked as a patrol officer, traffic officer, and School resource officer among the many roles he has performed in his career.

The current Cherokee County Sheriff is David Groves who recently announced his departure from the position.
