Independence High School is listed as the #12 best high school in Kansas according to U.S. News and World Report.

 The rankings are based on the number of advanced placement classes that are offered and taken by students as well as student proficiency in math, reading, and science and graduation rates.

Independence ranks #4 in the state on performance on state assessments. IHS ranks #2,281 among all high schools in the nation.

The top school in Kansas is Sumner Academy of Arts and Science in Kansas City.
