Benefit for Deputy Justin Ward

There will be a benefit for Montgomery County Sheriff Deputy Justin Ward this Saturday in Independence.

Deputy Ward was seriously injured in the line of duty in a head-on car accident on April 7th. The benefit will feature several activities, including a cornhole tournament that begins at 1pm. The Independence Cornhole Club Flying Dirty Baggers is hosting the tournament. Club Organizer Michael Wrinkles says the group is happy to be able to help the injured deputy.

For those who want to take part in the tournament, there are two divisions: a social division and a competitive division. Entry fees for each are $30 and $60. Set up begins at noon and the tourney starts at 1pm. Registration can be done online in advance or in-person on Saturday. Wrinkles says beginners who don't have their own equipment will still be able to play.

In addition to the cornhole tournament, there will also be a bake sale, a strong man competition, and a silent auction, all starting at 5pm, plus live music from Brian Leedy and Tracy & The Time Travelers. All proceeds go to help pay for the medical and financial needs of Deputy Ward. Donations can also be made to the Justin Ward Medical & Financial Fund at Community National Bank in Independence.
