The City of Independence will begin installing new water meters next week.

 The existing manually read water meters will be replaced by new, electronic smart meters. Crews from Goins Enterprises will be working in all neighborhoods and will notify residents when work is about to begin by placing door hangers at homes. City Engineer John Garris says the new meters will benefit water customers in two ways.

Garris says there should be little inconvenience to customers. The only disruption customers may experience is a temporary outage. After installation, residents should let their water run continuously for a few minutes to let the lines clear before consumption.
