Independence Police Chief Reception This Thursday

Independence Police Chief Jerry Harrison's last day in his position is April 5th.

After that date, Harrision will leave to become chief of police in Lebanon, MO. Independence City Manager Kelly Passaeur says the city appreciates Harrison's work with the police force over the last eight years. She says there will be a reception to say good-bye to the outgoing chief before the next city commission meeting.

The city is currently looking for a new chief of police to fill the void left by Harrison's departure. Independence has hired David Hutchings to serve as interim chief. Harrison says he feels good having someone as qualified as Hutchings to take over.

Hutchings is a 33 year veteran of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The public is invited to attend Harrison's reception on Thursday afternoon.
