A second victim of the Cornerstone Apartment fire in Chanute has died.

 The Kansas Fire Marshal's Office has announced that 90 year old Jolavon Haymaker has passed away due to injuries sustained in last week's fire. Haymaker had been life-flighted to KU Medical Center in Kansas City due to severe injuries. The other victim who died at the scene has been identified as 22 year old Kalyn Jones. Seven other people received injuries in the fire and were treated and released at a local hospital.

State Fire Marshal Mark Engholm says the cause of the fire was accidental and cites the cause as smoking materials carelessly discarded on an exterior balcony.

A fund has been established to help victims of the fire. Monetary donations can be dropped off at the Chanute Area Chambegr of Commerce at 21 North Lincoln in Chanute.
