News Trees Planted in Miami Park

Crews planted 150 Native grafted Pecan trees last week at Riverview Park on the east side of Neosho River.

The first phase of trees was purchased using the City of Miami’s portion of the paddlefish license fees collected. A phase two plan was presented to Miami City Council this week by City of Miami’s Parks Manager Zeb Mingori of a no match grant proposal for $22,500 for another 250 trees applied for through the USDA’s Urban and Community Forest Grant Program. The cost share grant helps reforest areas in smaller communities. Mingori says the tree thrive in that area and, if the new funds are granted, there will 400 new trees in the park.

The bulk of the next phase will be planted on the west side of the river.
