Fire At Chanute Apartment Complex Leaves Multiple Injuries, One Fatality

 

 A fire at a Chanute apartment complex leaves numerous injuries and one fatality.

 One person has died from injuries sustained in a large fire at the Cornerstone Apartments at 1610 West 4th street in Chanute yesterday. The Chanute Fire Department and Chanute Police were called to the 24 unit complex around 1:15 yesterday morning. Upon arrival, fire crews found the south half of the building fully engulfed in flames. Police officers helped evacuate residents while the Fire Department battled the blaze. Fire Crews from Parsons, Iola, and Thayer were also called to help.

The Kansas Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.

The Red Cross has opened an Emergency Center at Central Park Pavilion, 101 S. Forest, Chanute, KS to help those in need of assistance. Those wanting to help residents of the Cornerstone apartments may contact the Red Cross.
