In Latest Report, Caney Grocery Making Money

The Caney City Council approves the transfer of 70-thousand dollars from the water fund to cover a shortfall of the now Caney Grocery at the end of 2023.

Fifty thousand of the seventy thousand dollars went back into the general fund to replace the money taken out of that account at the end of the year. City Administrator Kelley Zellner says the store, now, is on the right track.

Zellner says the store has suffered from a lot of negative publicity.

Zellner says the deli and the menus are made in house; in years past, they were controlled by an out-of-town corporation.

The city council is set to examine the Caney Grocery at the end of a 90 day window, which is set to end at the end of the month. Zellner believes the Grocery is not past the point of no return. However, there is a plan B use for the building, should Caney Grocery shut its doors.
