Caney Enters Engineering Contracts for Water Project

The city of Caney approves three contracts to continue moving forward with the transition away from the current water system.

During last night's meeting, the city council approved contracts with Midwest Engineering for the next step in the eight inch pipeline to Coffeyville, the in-town distribution system improvements, and a new water tower.

City Administrator Kelley Zellner says it's all part of the process.

Approval was also given for the purchase of 800 radio read meters, at a cost of just over $235-thousand dollars. Zellner says the purchase of the new meters helps show government agencies, lenders, and residents that the town is working on all aspects of water loss in town, and an added bonus is that the digital meters are extremely accurate.

Zellner says he believes 20% of the 28% water loss is due to inaccurate or faulty meters.
