Kansas Man Snags Record Catch at Lake of the Ozarks

An Olathe man fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks thought there was something wrong with him when he had trouble reeling in a fish over the weekend.

What Chad Williams didn't realize was that the fish on the end of his line was a 164 pound paddle fish. Williams said his body was aching after getting the huge fish into the boat. It was then that his friends told him the large paddlefish might be a record-breaker.

Williams and his group went to meet with representatives of the Missouri Department of Conservation Fisheries and Protection to weigh the fish on a certified scale. The fish broke the old state record by more than 20 pounds and beat the world record by 13 ounces.

Williams says he's still trying to process the whole thing. He plans to have the head of the fish taxidermied for display.
