FKHS Pool Drains into Basement During Spring Break

The pool at Field Kindley High School will be out of service for several months.

That was the word a last night's USD 445 School Board Meeting. Deputy Superintendent of Business Michael Speer says one of the sand filters at the pool burst for an unknown reason and quickly drained the pool.

Speer says the water did not appear to cause significant damage to the basement, but because of repairs that need to be made, the pool is not expected to be open until mid to late July. This will impact all groups using the pool including the girls' swim team, the Coffeyville Recreation Commission and Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

In other business, the board heard a presentation on how the students' Individual Plans of Study work, which helps them to plan for their work after high school. The board also approved textbook purchases and authorized the purchase of 3,000 pairs of headphones for classrooms using leftover school relief fund money.  New wayfinding signs were also approved for the high school and gyms.

The board also accepted several resignations including Roosevelt Middle School Principal Luke Claar and approved hiring Julie Dunham to fill Claar's position in July.
