A Coffeyville man is arrested in the middle of a home burglary outside of Caney.
Late last week, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office received a 911 call from a concerned citizen northeast of Caney. The caller reported a burglary after discovering their home's door had been forcibly opened. Deputies, alongside the Kansas Highway Patrol, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they observed a man inside the home attempting to evade detection by closing the blinds.
Despite commands to surrender, the suspect, identified as Andrew Cook refused to comply. Following an hour-long negotiation, Cook eventually exited the residence but refused to comply with law enforcement's orders. Deputies utilized less-lethal methods to secure Cook, who was taken into custody without further incident. He faces charges of burglary, attempted theft, interference with law enforcement and criminal damage.
