KBI Investigates Inmate Death in Neosho County

 The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is called in to investigate the death of an inmate in the Neosho County Jail.

 On February 28th, a detention officer at the Neosho County Jail found 40 year old Michael Powell of Chanute unresponsive in his cell. The officer called EMS and began CPR, but Powell was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to state law, the KBI has been called in to investigate and an autopsy has been ordered. Powell was alone in his cell when he was discovered. He was being held at the Neosho County Jail on a Chanute Police Department arrest for Burglary, Distribution of Certain Stimulants, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
